ThinkPad T61 / Fedora / Dark screen after suspend/resume

After a suspend, the screen remains very dark (basically, the backlight fails to turn back on again).
There is a trivial “fix” which is to switch virtual consoles:
ctrl-alt-F1
ctrl-alt-F7
